Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton has been president of Cuyahoga Community College, Ohio's oldest and largest community college, since 1992. From 1985 to 1992, Dr. Thornton served as president of Lakewood Community College in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and her M.A. and B.A. from Murray State University.
Dr. Thornton is a director of American Greetings Corporation and Applied Industrial Technologies, Inc. She also is a board member of United Way of Cleveland, the Cleveland Foundation, Greater Cleveland Partnership and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum — Cleveland and New York.
