Cap and Trade
A Dialogue on Cap and Trade - June 17, 2009
President Obama and the Majority Leadership in the 111th Congress have made passing mandatory cap and trade legislation a priority.
Already this year, the House Energy and Commerce Committee has passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) and leadership in the House is hoping to bring the legislation to the floor for full House consideration as soon as possible. In the meantime, Senators are preparing to debate the bill on the other side of the Capitol after the House finishes their work.
The legislation calls for a reduction in carbon emissions from major U.S. sources by 17% by 2020 and over 80% by 2050 compared to 2005 levels. The Greater Cleveland Partnership has been actively working to make sure our members are aware of the provisions in this proposal as it moves through the legislative process.
We will continue to work with Members of the Ohio delegation to make sure this bill protects Ohio’s industry and creates opportunities for job growth and economic development in NE Ohio.
