Why we're urging a "YES" vote on Issue 2
-
Issue 2 is a vote for lower taxes. It’s about helping the cash-strapped and overtaxed middle class. Like families, government needs to work harder to live within a budget. It’s about doing more with less.
-
Issue 2 will help preserve public-sector jobs because it will help balance the widening inequity between the public and private sectors. Taxpayers in the private sector can’t afford to keep paying for government largesse.
-
Issue 2 eliminates the outdated practice of seniority-based layoffs in our schools. It gives districts the option of considering teacher performance when they have no other choice but to reduce staff levels.
-
Issue 2 will reduce the cost of government, especially at the local level by bringing personnel costs under control.
-
Issue 2 will require the “right-sizing” of public-sector contributions to employee benefits to bring them more in line with the private sector.
-
Issue 2 will require that public-sector compensation is based on performance, rather than longevity. It will eliminate automatic “merit” pay increases or mandated step increases.
