Governor, Attorney General and Treasurer
In the race for Governor, incumbent Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland and his running mate Yvette McGee Brown will be challenged by former Republican Congressman John Kasich and his running mate, State Auditor Mary Taylor; for Attorney General, Democratic incumbent Richard Cordray will be opposed by former Republican U.S. Senator Mike DeWine; and for Treasurer, Democratic incumbent Kevin Boyce will be challenged in the fall by Republican State Rep. Josh Mandel.
The Tea Party effect failed to result in an upset in the Republican primary for State Auditor, where the GOP's endorsed candidate Delaware County Prosecutor David Yost defeated State Rep. Seth Morgan (R-Huber Heights). Yost will oppose Democratic Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper in November.
In other contested statewide primary races, State Senator Jon Husted (R-Kettering) secured the GOP nomination for Secretary of State, defeating former Ashtabula County Auditor and 2006 State Treasurer candidate Sandra O'Brien by a 67-33 percent margin. Husted will square off in the fall with Franklin County Clerk of Courts Maryellen O'Shaughnessy, who was unopposed for the Democratic party nomination.
The three Ohio Supreme Court races are also set with recently appointed Chief Justice Eric Brown, the lone Democrat on the court being opposed by Republican Justice Maureen O'Connor and Republican Justice Judith Lanzinger being challenged by Democrat Appellate Judge Mary Jane Trapp. Incumbent Republican Justice Paul Pfeifer is unopposed in November.
