National Labor Relations Board Proposed Rule Changes

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has proposed new rules that can dramatically impact your company. To help our members better understand these proposed changes, the Greater Cleveland Partnership hosted a seminar on Aug. 30  presented by Susan Hastings and Michael Hanna of Squire, Sanders and Dempsey L.L.P. to help explain the proposed rules and the potential impact on your business in relation to union organization efforts.

Take Action!

The Department of Labor has announced that it has granted a 30-day extension to file comments on the persuader rule. Comments are due on September 21. The notice of the extension is available here. The GCP encourages its members and affiliated organizations to:

  • Write a letter to the NLRB by September 21, 2011, and include your concerns and concerns about the proposed rule changes.
  • Be sure that federal elected representatives are aware of your comments by sending them a copy of your letter to the NLRB.

Fact Sheets and Template Comments

In cooperation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, below are links to brief fact sheets on each rule to assist GCP members in understanding the most important elements in the proposals. At the end of each fact sheet, please see the drafted short model comments that may be used in drafting your own comments.

Please note they are only one to two pages and clearly are not a comprehensive response. It is very important that as many businesses, organizations, individuals, and other associations file comments as possible.

Grassroots Campaign

The U.S. Chamber also has engaged its grassroots network on these issues. Early reports are that we are having success with people filing comments with the agencies. We would encourage everyone with grassroots capabilities to consider doing something similar.
