Our Goals

These are certainly challenging times economically, and the GCP is realistic and concerned about the resulting effects upon our members. But the downturn gives us even more reason to advance our advocacy mission and work with our public partners in overcoming challenges and kick-starting our region’s economic development.

We continue to assess the ever-changing economic landscape – both locally and nationally – and interpret how that affects our more than 17,000 members.

We also remain dedicated to promoting our 2009/2010 “action items” that are designed to focus our efforts upon a wide-ranging from defined collection of goals and efforts.

The following is a glimpse at a few things that we will be working on in 2009-2010:

  • Working to implement standards and passing legislation to protect the Great Lakes
  • Environment and Climate Change
  • Preservation, extension or reauthorization of Historic and New Market Tax Credits
  • Advocating for several transformative regional projects including: Inner Belt Bridge, Lakefront project, Opportunity Corridor and the Port of Cleveland
  • Funding for runway at NASA Glenn Plum Brook Station
  • Balancing Business and Labor Issues including opposing the enactment of “Healthy Families Act” and Employee Free Choice Act
