As you know by now, the launch of the Ares I-X was a stunning success. NASA Glenn and the entire space exploration team can be very proud of this accomplishment. The Plain Dealer coverage provided by John Mangels was awesome and captured to majesty of the moment. Now, the research begins – from the 700 sensors that were aboard, scientists will learn more about the flight and the future.
Sadly, although the launch window was from 9:00 a.m. to noon, our travel window was much shorter. We had to leave the launch site before the launch to get to the airport for our flights back. Thanks to a Twitter message, some of us were able to rush to an airport window in time to see the Ares flight in the distance . . . I, unfortunately, was in a coffee shop and did not get the news. . . . .I may have to give up coffee forever since it will always remind me of this sad moment.
But the trip itself was tremendous. We learned a lot, shared a lot with our colleagues, and returned with a renewed commitment to do everything we can to support the work of NASA and NASA Glenn. We’ll keep GCP members updated on our website and newsletters. Now, let’s go to the moon. . .
