As you may have seen in The Plain Dealer, the Greater Cleveland Partnership Board of Directors voted to approve an open letter to the community showing public support for the proposed Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) Academic Transformation Plan. The letter, which is running as a full-page ad in today’s paper on Page A3, calls for the business community and the community-at-large to work towards the success of the proposal by CMSD CEO Dr. Eugene Sanders. Up to this point, the GCP has been working behind the scenes on activities such as helping the district identify candidates for its CFO search and convening a workgroup of financial-minded individuals to conduct a top-level review of the district's finances. But clearly, it's time to be more out front.

The GCP Board took this action because we've determined that the business community's visible and vocal support is essential to building a better future for the district and its students. In only a 24-hour window, over 50 GCP Board members agreed to add their names to the letter, and many others simply didn't have time to respond. I think that speaks well for our organization's capacity to help in the coming weeks, since our consensus on the importance of the plan is so solid.
