Absentee results from Lake County may be an initial good sign for Republicans, with all GOP statewide candidates in the lead. Republican gubernatorial candidate John Kasich has 52% to Governor Ted Strickland's 44% and Republican Attorney General candidate Mike DeWine has 53% compared to Democrat Attorney General Rich Cordray's 43%. Absentee results are estimated to be 25% of the total vote in Lake County. In 2006, Governor Strickland carried Lake County by a 2-1 margin while Democrat Marc Dann outpolled Betty Montgomery by 6,000 votes.
