- With the NASA Shuttle program coming to an end, watching this video of the Endeavor launch (May 16 at 8:56 a.m.) is even more moving than usual. It certainly brought back memories of the launch I had the honor to see in person, which also was the Endeavor.

- GCP continuing to push for Congress to fund NASA Glenn

- NASA's future course and new direction in space exploration has been determined. Congress has authorized the agency's spending for the next three years with the recent passage of Senate Bill 3729, the NASA Reauthorization Act of 2010. Although the bill provides $58 billion to fund NASA over the next three years, it is void of language protecting Ohio's aerospace assets, particularly NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC).

- We’re going to provide you with something that nobody else will during this important 2010 election season in Ohio: INSTANT coverage and analyses that is totally geared toward how the candidates and the issues will affect the Northeast Ohio business community.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the growing sea of information-providers. The only way to maximize your time is to be selective. For years, we’ve provided you with a comprehensive election report that goes way beyond merely stating election results; it also successfully communicates the resulting implications to the business community. This year, we’re going to kick it up a notch. -

- On Sept. 21, the Greater Cleveland Partnership, along with the Edison Welding Institute and the Nuclear Fabrication Consortium, will host a conference at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel to explore a topic that many have shied away from -- nuclear energy. It will focus on technology, economic impact, manufacturing, and public policy.

- Shuttle lift-off is a powerful moment

- Well, it’s 9:00 p.m. and this is the first moment since the 2:20 launch that I’ve been able to get to a computer to tell you how fabulous the day has been. Just amazing. The launch went off on time and perfectly. Very difficult to describe the moment. First it’s the sound of the engines and the sudden sense of pure power in the air. A few seconds later, the shuttle lifts off, almost as if in slow motion. And then the most amazing trail of fire and smoke and before you know it, the shuttle is barely visible but on its way into space. On its way to the Space Station.. It is truly a patriotic and emotional moment. Wish you could have been here. To think that there are only two shuttle left is surreal. I worry that the absence will leave a generation of young people without the inspiration created by the space program. It will continue, of course, but it will be a long while before we can see something as powerful and inspiring as a shuttle launch. Kids are often inspired by dinosaurs and space. And we’re out of dinosaurs. . . .
It’s been an amazing day. I’ll post photos (taken by my daughter, not me) tomorrow. -

- It’s very early in the morning, but I couldn’t wait to get up and check out the weather. If anything can delay a launch, as we know, it’s Mother Nature. But there’s not a cloud in the sky – looks like perfect weather to go to the Space Station. At a usual launch, there are about 150,000 folks who come to watch. They pack into Kennedy Space Center, hang out at local parks, and even park along the highway. Today, there will be more than 300,000 visitors because it is Atlantis’ last flight. So glad we will be in the bleachers at Banana Creek – thank you, NASA Glenn! I’ve heard that several celebs are here, including David Letterman and a few government officials from Russia – no doubt they are checking things out for their future passengers! There seems to be a bittersweet atmosphere, unlike other launches. The Shuttle has been so much a part of the fabric of this community – most of the local folks are feeling a bit forlorn. We’re going to be leaving very early to try to get ahead of the crowds. I’ll catch up later.

- In fewer than 24 hours, NASA will launch the space shuttle Atlantis from Kennedy Space Center in Florida and I will be there…such an exciting event under any circumstance, but this launch is especially important because Cleveland astronaut Mike Good will be on board. With only three more launches remaining (including this one), the interest in the future of our space program is growing. Crowds are expected to increase with each launch, so I feel very lucky to be included in this one. I’ll be joining Rick Batyko from the Cleveland Plus Marketing Alliance, and we’ve been able to snag tickets to the viewing area in Banana Creek. It’s a spectacular view.

- After a long and fascinating day at Kennedy Space Center, I left feeling that we have a real opportunity to boost the presence of NASA Glenn in Northeast Ohio, regardless of the final outcome of this budget debate. Granted, the conference was full of supporters—very few critics—and the discussion will continue.

- I have had the honor of representing the Greater Cleveland Partnership on many wonderful occasions, but today may just top them all. I’m sitting in the facility at the Kennedy Space Center that houses our astronauts while they are quarantined before flight, which in itself is a thrill for me. I am in a room with about 300 other folks, waiting for the President of the United States to make an historic speech about the future of our space program. And, by the way, I am sitting next to Bill Nye, the science guy!

- Outreach to early voters important to passage of State Issue 1

- Early voting for the May election began March 30, and by all accounts, half of Cuyahoga County voters will choose this option to cast their votes. This means that we must continue to be aggressive in reaching out to voters to encourage a YES vote on Issue 1 United for Jobs Ohio to authorize renewal and continuation of the highly successful Ohio Third Frontier (OTF) technology development and jobs program.
