Commission Bonding Assistance FAQs

Q.  Can I obtain bonding from the Commission or is the Commission providing an alternative to bonding?

A:   The Commission does not write bonds, nor are we offering any product that is an alternative to, or takes the place of, bonding. Here's what we do:

  • Serve as a resource for minority-owned companies that have been unsuccessful in obtaining bonding through traditional channels.
  • Serve as a clearinghouse for bonding information. This includes: (1) sureties and professional service providers who are sensitive to the obstacles minority-owned companies encounter on the path to obtaining bonding; and (2) alternative bonding vehicles, such as options offered by the Ohio Dept. of Development.
  • Provide free information sessions for minority-owned businesses. We've hosted a conference on bonding basics with comments from general contractors and project owners and a work session on how to apply for bonding through the Ohio Dept. of Development.

Q:   When should I contact the Commission in the bonding process?

A:   Contact us when traditional paths to bonding have been unsuccessful. Typically, we can offer the most assistance to companies that have been turned down for bonding two or more times. Call our Bonding Assistance Help Line at (216) 592-2344 or e-mail your questions to bonding@gcpartnership.com.

Q.   Where can I find materials to help me in the bonding process?

A.    Click here to read or download our Bonding Prep brochure that explains how the Commission is working to improve bonding capability for minority-owned businesses.
