Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio 2010 Humanitarian of the Year


Barbara Snyder, president of Case Western Reserve University, was honored by the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio at its annual Humanitarian Award Dinner, held Nov. 16 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. Recipients of the award, first presented in 1949, exhibit an extensive record of involvement in civic, charitable, volunteer, and professional organizations.

Under Snyder's leadership, Case Western Reserve eliminated a multi-million-dollar deficit three years ahead of schedule, set new fundraising records, and completed its first strategic plan in more than a decade. As part of initiatives related to the strategic plan, in 2008, she appointed the university's inaugural vice president for inclusion, diversity and equal opportunity, Marilyn S. Mobley, Ph.D.

University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic included in DiversityInc 2010 Top Five Hospital Systems


Northeast Ohio made a strong showing in this new recognition by DiversityInc of the Top Five Hospital Systems. University Hospitals was ranked No. 4 and Cleveland Clinic was ranked No. 5. DiversityInc, a leading publication and Web site focused on workplace diversity and inclusion, annually recognizes the Top 50 Companies for Diversity®. For the first time this year, hospitals were evaluated in a separate category.

The DiversityInc Web site notes that the hospitals selected “all have exceptional CEO commitment, with 80 percent of their CEOs signing off on executive compensation tied to diversity, meeting regularly with employee-resource groups and having personal quotes about diversity on their Web sites.” Read more.

Cleveland State's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law receives Diversity Matters award


Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law has received the Diversity Matters award from the Law School Admission Council, the group that administers the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). The council monitors all 214 law schools across the country and converts their minority outreach efforts into a numerical scale. Cleveland State topped finalists that included University of California Davis and Wake Forest University.
