China Opportunities and Trends in 2010 and Beyond

Here’s an opportunity for Greater Cleveland Partnership Investor-level members to learn about legal and business-related perspectives that can help you create or enhance your China business strategy. Jim Zimmerman, a partner in the Beijing, China, office of Squire Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P., and former president of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in China, will speak at a luncheon on Tuesday, July 6, hosted by Squire Sanders and the Greater Cleveland Partnership.

Zimmerman will provide real-time examples of issues affecting both inbound and outbound China business. He will offer insights concerning recent foreign direct investment (FDI) and overseas direct investment (ODI) statistics. He also will discuss issues affecting U.S. business exporting to, or investing in, China including industrial policy, indigenous innovation policies, IP protection, procurement practices and sales to government agencies, trends in the judiciary and recent legal developments. In addition, Zimmerman will provide insights with respect to the outcome at the recently held Strategic & Economic Dialogue between the US Government and PRC Government and on how business can prepare and position itself to tap the opportunities in China.

Zimmerman's work with AmCham, coupled with the legal guidance he provides for companies looking to blend a China presence into their overall business strategy, has gained him an international following. In addition, he recently published the third edition of the China Law Deskbook through the American Bar Association, reflecting his expertise on the legal side of the Chinese market.
