City Club Forum: Ohio Third Frontier

Is the Third Frontier paying off and will it deliver again?
State Issue 1: Voting for Ohio’s economic future

On May 4, Ohio voters will have an opportunity vote on Issue 1, a $700 million bond issue that will renew and expand Ohio Third Frontier, without raising taxes. Since 2002, Ohio Third Frontier, the state’s most successful economic development and jobs program, has made strategic investments in emerging technology industries to accelerate commercial activity and create jobs for Ohio citizens. According to a recent Ohio Business Roundtable study, the Ohio Third Frontier has created 571 companies and 48,000 jobs, with a 22 percent annual return on the state’s investments. The result is real companies, making real products and creating real jobs.

Issue 1 has attracted strong bipartisan support, as well as broad-based support from business, labor, higher education, agriculture and other key sectors of Ohio’s economy.

Panelists will discuss State Issue 1, successes of the Ohio Third Frontier program to-date, as well as the importance of renewing the program and what it means to Ohio’s economy, both now and in the future.
