"Encouraging Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Northeast Ohio" Roundtable

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge will host a roundtable discussion on “Encouraging Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Northeast Ohio" on Wed., Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Great Lakes Science Center. As vice chair of the U.S. House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Research and Science Education, the Congresswoman is interested in strengthening university-industry collaborations and the transfer of technology and knowledge from our universities to the companies and businesses in Northeast Ohio.

The roundtable’s purpose is to examine the role of innovation in regional economic development. Participants are asked to join the discussion about challenges to fostering innovation in Northeast Ohio, best practices to facilitate public-private partnerships, and the role of the Federal government in helping to foster regional innovation. The event will begin with a panel discussion with presentations from:

  • Dr. Byron Clayton, vice president, Flexible Electronics Industry Cluster Initiative, NorTech
  • Mark Coticchia, vice president, research and technology management, Case Western Reserve University
  • Ray Leach, president and CEO, JumpStart, Inc.
  • Dr. Kesh Narayanan, division director, industrial innovation and partnerships, National Science Foundation
  • Dr. Charu Ramanthan, vice president, clinical and business development, CardioInsight

After the panelists’ presentations, the Congresswoman will lead a discussion with the panelists and other roundtable participants in order to hear thoughts and concerns on this important matter to inform the ongoing work of the Committee on Science and Technology.
