Cuba Forum: Understanding the Opportunities and Risks

With all of the talk on U.S.-Cuba relations in the media, many U.S. companies are excited about the Cuban market and potential trade opportunities.

Unfortunately, we're not there yet, and it's critical that companies wanting to do business with Cuba educate themselves about the market, the regulatory environment and the challenges of doing business with a country that is still sanctioned for most trade.

  • Damon Piatek, Welke Customs Brokers USA, a licensed U.S. Customs Broker and Customs Compliance Specialist, with over 18 years of experience in the import/export, customs, transportation, and logistics sectors.

  • John Kaviluch, U.S. Trade and Economic Council , president of the U.S.-Cuba Trade and Economic Council, Inc. (http://www.cubatrade.org), a private, membership-based, not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization established in 1994 and headquartered in New York City. He also serves as editor of the organization's primary publication, "Economic Eye on Cuba"©.
     
  • Alexandra López-Casero, Nixon Peabody LLP, a partner at Nixon Peabody's Washington, D.C. office. She concentrates on export controls, economic sanctions, and national security reviews before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

  • Nick York, To Cuba Now, a senior member of the national law firm Tucker Ellis LLP and co-founder of To Cuba Now. He as three decades’ experience operating at the intersection of business, law, and government in Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
