More good news about DFAS: GCP praises public-private partnership effort that will add nearly 1000 new jobs by 2011

Thursday, October 16, 2008

Cleveland, October 16, 2008 - Today's announcement by the Northeast Ohio Congressional Delegation that Cleveland's Defense, Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) should add nearly 1,000 new jobs by the end of 2011 was cited by the Greater Cleveland Partnership as another example of the kind of success that can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together on behalf of the region.

Joe Roman, the GCP's president and CEO, noted that the Cleveland Defense Industry Alliance's successful campaign to save Cleveland's DFAS office in 2005, "proved what can be done when community leaders, through sheer determination, work together as a well-oiled machine." He said that the announcement of additional jobs coming to Cleveland, made at the Oct. 16 press conference, "is another chapter in the story that communicates that we have a world-class DFAS operation. It's fantastic news that we can make an announcement like this during these difficult economic times." DFAS Cleveland is expected to grow from its initial base of 1,013 civilian employees and a small number of military employees, to 2,011 jobs by 2011, the end of the six-year BRAC process.

Cleveland DFAS already has added about 600 new jobs in the last three years, including all of the Marine Corps pay functions from a DFAS facility in Kansas City. These jobs have translated into an additional $24 million in annual payroll in Cleveland, in addition to the previous $65 million annual payroll at DFAS. Click here  to read the full press release.
