Cleveland, October, 22, 2008 - NASA Glenn Research Center's (GRC) shipment of 11 Ares I-X Upper Stage Simulator segments to the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida is an important reminder that GRC both exemplifies Northeast Ohio's leadership in innovative technology and serves as a major contributor to the region's economy, said Joe Roman, president and CEO of the Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP), GRC's community advocate.
"The GCP is pleased to congratulate the NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) and its employees on the occasion of shipping the first major hardware pieces of the Ares I-X vehicle that will simulate the Ares I vehicle, the replacement for the space shuttle," said Roman. "This is another key example of the kind of innovative technology that is developed here in Northeast Ohio."
In its role as NASA Glenn Research Center's community advocate, the GCP serves as the advocate liaison between GRC and members of Ohio's Congressional and state delegations, as well as the executive branches of government in Washington D.C. and Columbus, Ohio.
"I would like to thank Ohio's Congressional Delegation. Without their support of NASA and the Glenn Research Center, today's shipment would not be possible," said Roman. "The members of our delegation understand the importance of GRC and its impact in all of Ohio's 18 Congressional Districts. NASA's work creates over 8,000 Ohio jobs and generates more than $1.2 billion in economic output annually.
"Today is about the future of manned space flight and the future of NASA Glenn," he continued. "GRC continues to demonstrate its commitment and ability to contribute to the Space Exploration Mission. From design to fabrication, as well as testing of components of the upper-stage mass simulator, spacecraft adapter, service module, and interstage section, GRC is moving NASA and our nation to the next level of space exploration."
