Removal of Healthy Families Act from ballot a victory for Ohio business
Tuesday, September 09, 2008
Cleveland, September 9, 2008 - Greater Cleveland Partnership Board Chair Henry L. Meyer III praised Gov. Ted Strickland, Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown for their leadership and efforts that resulted in the removal of Issue 4, the so-called Healthy Families Act, from the November ballot. "The removal of Issue 4 from the ballot is a real victory for Ohio business," Meyer said. The GCP was strongly behind the efforts of its small business partner, COSE, to defeat Issue 4, which would have made Ohio inhospitable to business by placing arduous requirements on employers and would hit small businesses the hardest.
GCP Board member Tim Reynolds, who is also chair of the COSE Advocacy Committee, said COSE's early involvement helped to raise awareness of how the act would hurt Ohio businesses. He thanked GCP President and CEO Joe Roman and Carol Caruso, the GCP's senior vice president of advocacy, for their support. He noted that the issue would likely emerge as an item on the advocacy agenda at the federal level.
