Urges hiring talented leadership, implementing cost-cutting reforms
Cleveland, Ohio—Leaders of the Cuyahoga County Transition Executive Committee have released an interim report entitled “First Things First” on the work that has been done over the last seven months involving hundreds of county residents.
According to the report (click here to read or download the PDF), the key to success for reforming county government and unlocking the opportunities that exist for our region is finding and hiring a talented leadership team of eight professionals that can bring experience with both functional responsibilities and change initiatives to the new administration.
“There is no substitute for having the right people with the right skills in the right positions to help us achieve the opportunities that reform can bring,” said Marty Zanotti, chairman of the Transition Executive Committee.
The interim report focuses on several immediate action steps the newly elected County Executive and Council can take immediately after the election to put reform into motion.
“We have met our own objectives of identifying opportunities to create more than 15 percent savings in general fund expenditures that will not only increase efficiencies but will also provide a targeted $50 million for the county to invest in economic development and job creation for the region,” said Sandy Cutler, chairman and CEO of Eaton Corporation and a member of the Transition Executive Committee.
The report also identifies opportunities with the potential to save more than $100 million by maximizing efficiency.
Following the November 2 election, the Transition Executive Committee will release a final report with additional specific recommendations for the new county government.
