Former Congressman Stokes to swear in FitzGerald as 1st Cuyahoga County Executive

Inauguration ceremony set for Sun., Jan. 9

Cleveland, Ohio—Former Congressman Louis Stokes will swear in Ed FitzGerald as Cuyahoga’s first county executive at a formal inauguration ceremony set for Sun., Jan. 9, 2011. Honorary Co-chairs include Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge and Congressman Dennis Kucinich. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Old Courthouse, 1 W. Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland.

“We are honored to have former Congressman Lou Stokes play such an important role in the inaugural swearing in of Cuyahoga County Executive-Elect, Ed FitzGerald,” said Inauguration Planning Director Sharon Cole. “As we begin this new form of improved county governance, it is important to remember the past contributions of great leaders like Congressman Stokes.”

The ceremony will include musical performances by the Cleveland Heights A Capella Choir and William Clarence Marshall, Bass. The event is open to the public, but registration is required due to limited spacing. For registration information and additional details, please visit www.ONECUYAHOGA.com.

The Greater Cleveland Partnership’s involvement in county government reform goes back to early 2009. The organization’s financial support was the key to getting the measure on the ballot in November that year.
