GCP opposes proposed airlines fees

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Cleveland, Ohio—Last week, the Greater Cleveland Partnership announced its opposition to proposed increases in fees on airlines and passengers. As part of its deficit reduction plan, the Administration has proposed a significant increase in the airline landing tax and a threefold increase in the security screening fee.

In a letter written to U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R, OH), who serves on the United States Congress Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, also known as the Super Committee, GCP President and CEO Joe Roman expressed the organization’s opposition to these proposed tax and fee increases and their potential impact at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and the region’s effort to retain the United hub at CLE. We will continue to monitor the situation and remain committed to this effort in its support of the business community in the Cleveland Plus region.
