Issue 2 can help government get costs under control, ease burden on taxpayers

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Cleveland, Ohio—If Ohio hopes to compete for new job growth, we have to make our state a more affordable place to live, work and do business. That starts with getting the cost of government under control so we can direct more of our limited resources into economic development, community revitalization and better schools.

Issue 2 empowers every Ohio taxpayer with reasonable reforms to the growing cost of government pay and benefits, which now consume as much as 80 percent of local budgets.

Issue 2 will help Ohio's middle class regain control of the government it pays for and elects. It makes some very fair and common sense requests of government employees to help our local communities get their growing labor costs under control.

Learn more about how Issue 2 will help curtail spiraling government costs from this Plain Dealer Op-Ed piece by Dave Yost, Ohio’s auditor of state. He points out that “Health care costs are a huge cost to state and local governments—that is, to you. Governments have no money of their own, only the money you pay in taxes.”
