Ohio Business Roundtable releases study comparing public vs. private-sector compensation in Ohio
Wednesday, September 14, 2011
Columbus, Ohio—The Ohio Business Roundtable (BRT) today released an important new study comparing public vs. private-sector compensation for equivalent workers in Ohio.
Key finding of the study is that when pay, benefits, present value of guaranteed retirement, and value of job security are taken into account, public workers in Ohio enjoy a 43.4 percent premium in total compensation over their private-sector counterparts.
The issue of private vs. public-sector compensation has been the subject of many claims and counterclaims in the debate over Issue 2 on the November ballot. BRT President Richard Stoff said, “We commissioned the study based on our conviction that important public decisions should be based as much as possible on facts and hard data. The research report provides valuable insight into both differing methods and differing amounts of compensation paid to Ohio workers.”
The research was conducted by Andrew Biggs, Ph.D, resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and his colleague Jason Richwine, Ph.D.
