RTA Red Line airport tunnel closing Nov. 27 for repairs
Wednesday, November 14, 2012
Bus service to operate between Brookpark station and Hopkins
Cleveland, Ohio—The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) Red Line tunnel under Hopkins Airport will be closed from November 27 until Spring 2013 for repairs. Riders should allow extra time for airport travel while RTA makes $10 million in improvements to restore and improve the tunnel's drainage, track, structure, ventilation and safety systems.
Bus service to be provided
During the shutdown, RTA will operate bus service from the Brookpark Station to the limousine staging area near the Airport terminal. Look for buses with destination signs that read "Red Line.” Bus service is coordinated with the rail schedule and will operate every 15-20 minutes.
RTA wants to finish the project before two major events in 2013—the National Senior Games and the opening of the Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center—which will greatly increase the number of passengers using the tunnel daily.
