Health Care: A Northeast Ohio economic driver
Health care is an important economic driver in Greater Cleveland. Residents of Northeast Ohio live a short distance from some of the top health care providers in the world. Hospital systems occupy the region’s top employer spots, accounting for roughly 85,000 jobs that generate nearly $6 billion in annual payroll.
In addition, Northeast Ohio’s health care facilities create significant economic impact by drawing patients and visitors from outside the region. The new Global Center for Health Innovation will showcase the region’s health care assets for additional economic benefit.
GCP supports expanding Medicaid eligibility as permitted by the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Expanding Medicaid limits cost shifting from providers to commercial payers and mitigates employers’ risks of ACA penalties.
