Downtown Heinen’s opens; CDA played pivotal financing role

The highly anticipated Heinen’s at The 9 opened last week to enthusiastic accolades. The supermarket provides a critical amenity to support the growing downtown population and completes the transformation of the vacant Ameritrust complex into a vibrant mixed use development.

Cleveland Development Advisors (CDA), the Greater Cleveland Partnership’s real estate and business finance affiliate, provided a $7 million New Markets Tax Credit allocation and $6 million in direct financing for this truly catalytic project.

The 9 complex includes 194 apartment units, a 156-room luxury hotel, and 70,000 square feet of retail and commercial space including the Heinen’s supermarket and offices Downtown Cleveland Alliance offices.

New co-chairs named for Construction Diversity
and Inclusion initiative

Greater Cleveland Partnership Board member Dr. Alex Johnson, president of Cuyahoga Community College, and Gareth Vaughan, president of The A.M. Higley Company, have agreed to serve as the new co-chairs of the Commission on Economic Inclusion’s Construction Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) initiative.

Outgoing co-chairs Natoya Walker-Minor, chief of public affairs for the City of Cleveland, and Anthony Panzica, president and CEO of Panzica Construction Company, will continue as members of the CDI Executive Committee and the Commission’s Advisory Board.

Owners outreach

Project owners who have agreed to quarterly reporting have continued to submit their data and reporting charts regarding their active building projects. Forms are updated as they are received and can be found on the Construction Diversity & Inclusion website.

Pre-apprenticeship and training


Cuyahoga Community College announced that it will host a Construction Career Fair Expo at Tri-C Corporate College East on Thursday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This expo will focus on construction trades and construction management careers and targets high school students, young adults, and Tri-C students.

Ensuring involvement by Cleveland and Northeast Ohio companies, businesses and residents is an extremely important part of hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention.

While detailed volunteer opportunities are still being developed, you can indicate your interest on the 2016 RNC volunteer website by clicking the "SIGN UP NOW" button to receive ongoing information on convention planning.

Preparing students for lifelong career success

The Greater Cleveland Partnership and Cleveland State University (CSU) are hosting a seminar for CSU faculty and staff to learn more about the region’s economy, workforce needs, and how the university can play a pivotal role in addressing some of the region’s challenges while enhancing the student experience in CSU classrooms and effective internships.

Representatives from the business community are invited to participate in “The Changing World of Work: Aligning Faculty and Employers for Student Success” on Tuesday, March 24 at the GCP’s offices, 1240 Huron Road East in PlayhouseSquare. The program will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. followed by a reception from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
