GCP applauds passage of compromise water quality bill
The Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP) applauds the Ohio General Assembly for passing legislation to address water quality issues in Lake Erie. The compromise bill, SB 1, will restrict agricultural practices known to contribute to the formation of harmful algal blooms.
This legislative effort comes in response to last summer’s crisis when algal blooms in the western basin of Lake Erie left the City of Toledo without drinking water for several days.
Protecting the Great Lakes is a key focus GCP’s public policy work. The passage of SB 1 is an important step in preserving the water quality of Lake Erie while maximizing the economic benefit that it provides to our region.
The bill is now headed to the Governor for his signature.
