GCP remains strong supporter of The Q Transformation Plan
The Greater Cleveland Partnership remains a strong supporter of The Q Transformation Plan. Maintaining and upgrading our civic assets like Quicken Loans Arena prolongs their useful life and enhances the impact they have in our community.
There is no doubt The Q provides an unmatched economic impact in Northeast Ohio. The facility has over a thousand events annually, bringing roughly two million people to the heart of our city. Thousands of people from every community in our region are employed at The Q – and countless other benefit indirectly.
The Q Transformation Plan is a model public/private partnership. The investment is 50-50.
The public portion uses taxes already in place related to The Q, leftover from other projects, and on people who visit our region. NO NEW TAXES are proposed as part of this plan.
In return, the Cavs will pay half of the cost for the upgrade, guarantee funds to the City of Cleveland General Fund and extend their lease by several years.
We will continue working with our members and other stakeholders to ensure this plan is executed.
Goals of federal tax reform

Regional partners host craft brew industry roundtable
On August 9, the Greater Cleveland Partnership Business Development Team, in collaboration with its regional partners the Greater Akron Chamber, Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber, Stark Development Board, Medina Economic Development Corporation, Team NEO and JobsOhio, hosted the Northeast Ohio Craft Brew Industry Roundtable Discussion.
The craft brew industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in Ohio and the country. An FY 2015 economic impact study reveals that in Ohio, the industry has a 1.7X multiplier effect on the state’s economy and continues to experience steady annual growth.
Annually, the industry contributes more than $2.0 billion to Ohio’s economy. Of that amount, more than $700 million is attributable to Ohio based craft brew companies.
The partners were joined by leaders from seven regional brew companies,* as well as local supply chain providers and agricultural experts from the region.
The goal of the forum was simple—listen to the needs of the leadership and determine how the Northeast Ohio economic development system can help sustain the industry and advance growth opportunities.
“The growth, competitiveness and popularity of Northeast Ohio’s craft brew operators continues to soar,” said Deb Janik, the Greater Cleveland Partnership’s senior vice president for real estate and business development.
“These operators face the same challenges as any manufacturer in Ohio’s food industry sector—developing new products, attracting talent, access to capital and significant competition.”
In Northeast Ohio, the industry is growing and competitive, the economic impact is significant and our breweries and brew pubs are also often anchors in rebuilding and rebranding our communities.
The regional partners are committed to continuing the conversation with industry leadership going forward.

Hopkins Airport exceeds monthly passenger counts during March-July 2017
For the fifth consecutive month, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) exceeded monthly passenger numbers for the same months in 2016.
This includes the past two months, which surpassed passenger activity from the Republican National Convention held in July 2016 in Cleveland.
Nearly 892,400 passengers passed through Hopkins in July 2017. or more than 100,000 passengers greater than the total for July of last year.
Additionally, CLE reported for June 2017 an 11.3 percent increase year-over-year from June 2016.
Year-to-date in 2017, CLE has accommodated 5,230,927 guests. Last year as of the end of July, CLE had 4,900,412 passengers.
“Hopkins’ air service, despite what may have been thought three years ago with the loss of the United hub, has shown a remarkable recovery,” said Greater Cleveland Partnership President and CEO Joe Roman. “These latest numbers clearly show that this trend is continuing.
“The GCP Air Service Demand Task Force continues to work with the City of Cleveland and the airport system to ensure that Hopkins remains an economic asset for our community.”

Get involved and help build Cleveland’s talent pipeline
From talking and listening to our members of all sizes from all across the region, we know that their single biggest issue of concern is talent.
Educational attainment, a focus on skills development, and improving the level of talent within the workplace are key areas of opportunity for business community involvement.
One way for direct involvement—right now—is for our member companies to offer True2U
—a career awareness and mentoring program for Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) eighth-graders—as an opportunity for your employees to volunteer as mentors for the 2017-2018 school year.
Starting in October, they will work with eighth-grade students to create career awareness and goals for success on a monthly basis. The program uses a unique advisory model in which small groups of students are led by a team of two to three mentors and supported by a CMSD teacher.
As you know, the business community is an essential component in efforts to prepare our youth to be successful as adults in tomorrow’s workplace.
One part of the solution to the challenge of attracting and retaining talent lies in early exposure to career pathways and helping students make decisions that best position them for lifetime success.
Our goal: To connect with all CMSD eighth-graders
More than 150 business volunteers recruited by the GCP joined mentors from the wider community in serving approximately 1,700 youths in 44 Cleveland schools during the 2016-2017 school year.
During the 2017-18 school year, True2U’s goal is to serve approximately 2,500 students in 68 schools—every enrolled CMSD eighth-grader—to help prepare them for the transition from middle school to high school.
Three hundred business volunteer mentors are needed.

True2U is the shared vision of community leaders from the Cleveland Foundation, MyCom, the CMSD, Neighborhood Leadership Institute, Greater Cleveland Faith-Based Collaborative, Inc., and the GCP, the lead business partner.
Share your industry expertise with CMSD high school students
The Academies of Cleveland
(AoC) focus on college and career readiness for students in five Cleveland Metropolitan School District
(CMSD) high schools: Garrett Morgan, Jane Addams Business Careers Center, Martin Luther King Jr., Max S. Hayes, and Washington Park Environmental Studies.
Each school concentrates on career pathways from a variety of industries that drive economic growth in our community.
We are inviting Greater Cleveland Partnership members to provide industry expertise and interactive, career-exposure experiences for Academies of Cleveland students at Ninth Grade Career Experience Fairs, on Thursday, September 14
from 9 to 11 a.m.
Each school will have its own fair. Exhibitors will be matched with the high school that fits their industry.
The Ninth Grade Career Experience Fairs will provide an avenue for all Academies of Cleveland high school freshmen to explore a breadth of career areas in order to better make informed decisions about their future career path.
We are inviting local companies, businesses intermediaries and industry associations to participate in the fairs by setting up creative, unique and interactive exhibits representing their industry. We are recruiting representatives from the following industries to exhibit at these high schools:
