Greater Cleveland Partnership Reveals Details of Multimillion-Dollar ‘forwardCLE’ Economic Development Campaign

CLEVELAND (May 15, 2018)—The Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP) has unveiled details behind its multiyear, multimillion-dollar “forwardCLE” campaign aimed at unlocking the growth potential of Northeast Ohio businesses and continuing the region’s positive economic development momentum. The campaign will run from 2018-2021.

The forwardCLE campaign was explained to members, key strategic and community partners and others during the GCP’s 2018 Annual Meeting, which took place on Wednesday, May 15, at the Huntington Convention Center in downtown Cleveland.

GCP incoming chairman, Scott Chaikin highlighted five areas that are critical to the economic success in Northeast Ohio. These areas include amplifying geographic places of impact within our community; empowering talent to fuel growth; creating a positive environment in which businesses of all sizes can thrive; connecting these organizations within the business and civic ecosystem; and ensuring that the GCP is the responsive and capable organization Northeast Ohio needs to deliver on these objectives.

Lasting impacts of the campaign can be placed under the categories of all-consuming priorities, opportunities for CEO perspective and unlocking growth:

Leadership Priorities

  • The creation of an Office of Workforce Engagement.
  • The launch of a skills-based workforce initiative.
  • Engagement of immigrants and entrepreneurs in neighborhood growth.
  • Participation in 1,000 company retention and growth visits per year.
  • Oversee new investment tools for neighborhood development.
  • Development of a “Business 211” plan for Northeast Ohio.

Opportunities for CEO Perspective

  • Establish the International Air Service Guarantee Fund.
  • Build a case for enhanced worker mobility throughout the region.
  • Conduct a large-scale mobility pilot program.
  • Put in place a CEO Innovation and Commercialization Council Commercialization Benchmarks Study and Regional Plan.

Unlocking Growth

  • Implement a Tax Impact Study and make policy recommendations.
  • Oversee a diversity and inclusion assessment and the NEO D&I 3.0 Plan.
