Greater Cleveland Partnership purchases its building

CLEVELAND—The Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP) is putting down solid roots in Cleveland’s Playhouse Square district by exercising a purchase option on its 1240 Huron Road East building.

The GCP moved to the 72,000-square-foot building in 2011 following a three-year stint in the Higbee Building, which is now occupied by JACK Cleveland Casino.

Over the years, the Playhouse Square neighborhood has become a major hub for non-profit organizations and businesses alike making it an ideal central location in downtown Cleveland for the 8,500-member business organization.

“It’s great to see a business organization like GCP becoming an important part of the tremendous transformation and growth that Playhouse Square has been experiencing over the last couple years,” said Art Falco, president and CEO of Playhouse Square.

“We are glad to see them make a long-term commitment to the neighborhood and we look forward to working in collaboration with them to continue to bring more business and activity into the district.”

The Greater Cleveland Partnership currently occupies approximately 60 percent of the five-story building. The GCP staff is concentrated on two floors and the first floor of the building boasts a conference center that is shared by all the building’s tenants.

Other current tenants that will remain in the building following the purchase include United Airlines, the Cleveland International Fund, Cleveland Water Alliance and the Cleveland Transformation Alliance. The GCP will be looking to identify a nonprofit organization or private company that has an interest in being in the Playhouse Square neighborhood to lease the balance of the building.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to further demonstrate our investment in the City of Cleveland,” said GCP President and CEO Joe Roman.

“The purchase of this building places us among the many member businesses we represent and allows us to stay well-connected to the game-changing economic development projects going on in Cleveland.
