About the Speaker


Born and raised in Akron, State Representative Emilia Sykes was elected to represent her hometown in November 2014 and serves as Democratic leader of the House minority caucus. As a representative, Sykes has fought for a range of issues, including quality education and job training, criminal justice reform, and an end to domestic violence. She previously served at the Summit County Fiscal Office, where she worked to establish a county land bank to repurpose vacant and abandoned properties. Representative Sykes attended Kent State University, graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology, and later earned a Juris Doctorate and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Florida.

Members of the Greater Cleveland Partnership who are engaged in, or interested in, such issues attend these sessions for networking and discussions about political and public policy topics of current interest.
