According to the National Center for the Middle Market’s Q4 2013 Middle-Market Indicator Report, 88 percent of the 1,000 C-suite middle-market executives surveyed said that healthcare costs are at least somewhat challenging and more than half saying they are highly challenging.  

Without the scale of large companies or exemptions afforded to small companies, middle-market companies must adjust to both rising healthcare costs and implementing new regulations.

Our speakers

Patricia Decensi, vice president and general counsel for Medical Mutual, is responsible for all aspects of the company’s legal department, including compliance, litigation, contract interpretation and administration, corporate financial investigations, and working with outside counsel.

Ms. Decensi began her career at Medical Mutual in 1990. She has been responsible for handling legal issues involving Medical Mutual’s group health plan customers, including drafting and negotiating group contracts.  Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, she also has spent much of her time working with customers and internal employees on healthcare reform implementation and compliance issues.

Scott McLellan is with Plante Moran’s Employee Benefits Consulting Practice. With more than 20 years of employee benefits experience, his recent work and experience include providing strategic health and welfare direction, design, deployment, evaluation and analysis with a focus in the manufacturing, hospital/healthcare, financial and professional services sectors.

He specializes in providing executive-level management and oversight related to evaluation, design, implementation and administration to approximately 30 employer groups ranging in size from 200 to 20,000 employees.
