The Construction Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) initiative of the Commission on Economic Inclusion reports progress and activity on three fronts in its efforts to increase the use of Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and Female Business Enterprises (FBEs) firms in Greater Cleveland’s major construction projects.

Collaborative efforts are addressing challenges or producing results in workforce readiness, local hiring, and owners outreach and reporting.

Public investment in arts and culture pays huge dividends

The GCP is backing passage of the November 3rd ballot issue calling for the 10-year renewal of the current 1.5 cents tax per cigarette sold in Cuyahoga County to support arts and cultural organizations.

Our arts and cultural organizations not only improve the educational performance of our schoolchildren, they also pay substantial economic dividends including employing nearly 9,000 people and generating hundreds of millions of dollars in annual economic activity. Read more.

Learn more about why we’re opposing marijuana legalization in Ohio

In this week’s “GCP Insight” interview, Marty McGann, the GCP’s senior vice president of advocacy, discusses why the organization is opposing the ResponsibleOhio effort to legalize marijuana use in the State of Ohio.

He explains that, following a lengthy review, the GCP concluded the proposal to permit marijuana use for both recreational and medical purposes could negatively impact workplaces and burden small businesses.

Ohio's middle market steady growth tops national rate

Revenue growth for Ohio’s middle-market companies over the past 12 months topped that of the national rate, according to the National Center for the Middle-Market’s 2Q 2015 Middle Market Indicator (MMI) report.

Ohio companies reported growth at 6.8 percent compared to a national rate of 6.6 percent.

“Ohio’s middle-market businesses are continuing to drive our state’s economy” said GCP President and CEO Joe Roman noting that more half of those companies are in Northeast Ohio. Read more.
