GCP Advocacy Year in Review and Look Ahead

The Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP) provides a unified voice for the Northeast Ohio business community and our policy priorities are driven directly by our members. The role of the GCP Advocacy Team is to mobilize private sector leadership, expertise, and resources from businesses of all sizes to create attractive economic conditions that create jobs, grow investment, and improve the prosperity of our region.  In 2017, a $1.5 trillion federal tax reform package was signed into law and the 132nd Ohio General Assembly introduced more than 700 pieces of legislation. In addition, numerous local initiatives were debated, including several crucial ballot measures that allowed the voters to help determine what the regional landscape will look like in the future.

Last year, GCP enjoyed some significant victories and we take tremendous pride in serving as your voice. We look forward to continuing this important work with all our members going forward.

GCP, JobsOhio and Team NEO Expand Business Development Activities

The GCP is expanding its nationally recognized Business Development program in collaboration with JobsOhio and TeamNEO. The economic development partners are investing additional resources in Northeast Ohio to build capacity and accelerate business retention and expansion opportunities. GCP plans to more than double its business outreach and engagement activities with specific focus in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties.

GCP Partners With Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce

GCP is partnering with the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce to lead the Great Lakes Metro Chambers Coalition (GLMCC)– a national coalition of more than 30 chambers that advocate collectively on core policy priorities for the Great Lake region. 

GCP was one of the founding chambers of the coalition nearly ten years ago and will be working to boost the involvement of member chambers of commerce and organizations across the Great Lakes region to elevate GLMCC’s voice in Washington D.C. on issues like water quality, trade, and immigration reform.

GCP Joins JobsOhio and TeamNEO for Business Development

The Greater Cleveland Partnership has joined JobsOhio and TeamNEO to reach out to businesses in Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties planning expansions and encourage those companies to do so in Northeast Ohio.

GCP LEAD: Link. Engage. Advocate. Develop.

We are now accepting nominations of emerging leaders from Greater Cleveland Partnership member companies for the next cohort of GCP LEAD, a program designed to immerse and educate young professionals in the work of the GCP and the community. 

We invite you to nominate one or two individuals from your organization for the GCP LEAD Cohort 3, scheduled to begin in January 2018. 

GCP LEAD was created because GCP recognizes the importance of cultivating our region’s future business and community leaders. GCP LEAD provides unique development opportunities for young professionals, as well as ways to get the next generation of your company’s leaders involved and invested in Cleveland’s economic development agenda. 

Nominees must have at least five years of professional experience and an interest in getting involved in the GCP's priority areas of Education/Workforce, Business/Physical Development, Commission on Economic Inclusion, Small and Mid-Market Business Initiatives, and Advocacy.

Get Involved by Hosting Out-of-School Experiences for CMSD Eighth-Graders

True2U is a youth development and career exploration mentoring program designed for eighth-grade Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) students. It is a shared vision of community, business, faith-based, philanthropic and education leaders.

A key component of the True2U initiative is it to give students "out-of-school experiences” that introduce them to career opportunities from a variety of sectors. The business community is an integral partner in this work. 

Our goal is to recruit employers who will host one or more groups of CMSD eighth-graders ranging from 15-90 students beginning at 9 or 10:30 a.m. during the weeks of March 1 - May 18, 2018. Host companies will spend 90 minutes introducing the students to their organization and industry. Agendas for the day can be determined by each organization in coordination with True2U staff and can include some or all of the following: 

• An organization overview 
• A tour of the facilities
• A demonstration or hands-on experience (if possible) and
• A panel discussion (showcasing the diversity of careers within the organization) where staff share their personal career paths.

The Diversity & Inclusion Organization Assessment Can Help You Focus Your D & I Strategy

The Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Organization Assessment from the Commission on Economic Inclusion is available for free to all Greater Cleveland Partnership members.
Employers who complete the Assessment will receive immediate feedback upon making their final submission, along with resources that can be useful for internal diversity and inclusion strategic planning.
In addition, after all of the data has been collected, dynamic reports will be distributed to participating organizations that will allow users to filter the aggregate results, as well as a confidential scorecard that provides comparisons to peer groups. 
The Assessment and the associated resources can be helpful to any organization—whether it has an established D&I program in place or it is looking for a place to start.

The first 10 organizations that complete the Assessment for the first time this year will receive one free registration for the Commission’s annual Inclusion Conference in August—a $125 value.
