The Greater Cleveland Partnership offers a diverse range of services, expertise and connections to help our region’s companies grow, expand and thrive. The Commission on Economic Inclusion, a program of the GCP, is one of those resources.

Investing in Greater Cleveland’s current and future workforce

The Greater Cleveland Partnership has endorsed and is encouraging a YES vote on Issue 4, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District capital levy, and Issue 6, the Cuyahoga Community College operating levy.

We’ve created an online portal that employers can use to inform employees about the importance of passing both ballot issues, whose funds will serve in an investment in Greater Cleveland's current and future workforce.

Issue 4

Thousands of Cleveland students need up-to-date schools to prepare for jobs and college. Without raising taxes, Issue 4 will:
  • Improve classrooms, labs, equipment and safety
  • Prepare students for jobs and college with new technology
  • Continue to increase CMSD graduation rates
  • Create hundreds of local construction jobs
  • Bring quality schools to every neighborhood

In addition, two-thirds of the cost of new schools will be paid by the State of Ohio, if Cleveland voters extend the $4 a month already paid. (per $50,000 property).

Issue 6

Post-secondary education and training are addressed by Issue 6, whose funds will allow Tri-C to continue providing an affordable college education as well as up-to-date education and training for the Greater Cleveland business community’s current and future workforce.

Passing Issue 6 will:
  • Keep college education affordable and accessible for Cuyahoga County’s students and families
  • Protect the local economy and workforce competitiveness with up-to-date education and training
  • Enable students to earn two years of college credit affordably, seek bachelor’s degrees, and graduate with far less debt
  • Maintain access to high quality technical degrees, university transfer courses and job (re)training with up-to date technology

Important information about voting by mail and early voting

If you plan to vote by mail, please note these two important deadlines:

November 1, 2014 - Vote by Mail ballot application deadline

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections must receive ballot application requests by noon for voters to be eligible to Vote by Mail.

November 3, 2014 - Ballots mailed in the U.S. must be postmarked on or before this date.

Remember to include proper postage on your ballot return envelope. Ballot envelopes are not postage-paid.

Planning to vote early?

Here are the hours for early voting at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, 2925 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115.
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Monday 10/27 through Friday 10/31
  • 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Saturday 11/1
  • 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Sunday 11/2
  • 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Monday 11/3
  • 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.: 11/4 provisional voting only
On November 4, 2014, Election Day, polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.

Middle-market perspectives: Performance management
and financial success

Performance management isn’t the most popular activity in business. Although some executives have a natural gift for it— for getting the most out of the people who work for them at the same time that they’re helping those people develop skills and advance in their careers—the facility is relatively rare.

To find out how effective middle-market companies are at performance management, and what they could be doing better, the National Center for the Middle Market recently conducted a survey of 300 business executives. The survey found a strong relationship between the quality of performance management at mid-sized companies and their financial performance.

Is it time to rebrand your middle-market company?

As middle-market companies build relationships with customers, a favorable brand perception can be a valuable competitive advantage. However, in certain circumstances, your brand may be holding you back. If so, it's time to look at strategic re-branding.

contributor and marketing strategist Dorie Clark says there are several key questions you should ask yourself to help determine if your mid-market business needs to consider re-branding. They include:

Have your products or services changed? Consider whether your current positioning matches today's reality.

Has your audience changed? Maybe you started out servicing small accounts and now you've worked your way up to partnering with the nation's most prominent companies.

How do you compare with the competition? Is it clear why a customer should choose you rather than them? What do you offer that no one else does?
