Traffic and bus changes during Public Square renovation announced

Downtown Cleveland -- Downtown Cleveland partners involved in the renovation of Public Square have announced the maintenance of traffic plan that outlines changes to traffic and transit routes during construction of the square, which will begin March 9.

During the renovation of Public Square, Ontario Street and Superior Avenue within the square will be closed to all traffic. The surrounding Public Square Roadways and Rockwell Avenue will offer access to bus traffic and local vehicular traffic only.

Traffic and transit changes during construction

The project's planners have made effort during construction to reduce the impact on drivers, transit riders and everyone who lives or travels Downtown. A single traffic and public transit pattern will be maintained throughout the entire construction period. Drivers:

Starting March 9, and for the during of the renovation of Public Square, Ontario Street and Superior Avenue within the square will be closed to all traffic. The surrounding Public Square roadways and Rockwell Avenue will be accessible to RTA and local vehicular traffic only.

Parking garages and buildings on the perimeter of Public Square will be open and accessible to residents and Downtown employees. Also, exterior sidewalks along the perimeter of Public Square will be open for pedestrians.

RTA bus and trolley riders:

Starting March 1, bus stops, shelters and bus layover areas have been reorganized to accommodate the closure of Public Square. All bus routes and transfers remain within one block of Public Square. The HealthLine stop across from Tower City is open.
