In March of 2020 when COVID-19 became a global pandemic, the world was challenged with turning what we once knew as “normal” into a whole new way of doing business.
After months of navigating mask wearing, social distancing, zoom meetings and curbside pickups, businesses began to shift to a “new normal." Home kitchens, living rooms and dining tables became grounds for home offices, online learning classes and virtual boardroom meetings. Companies learned how to operate on less. Less spending from the budgets, less staff, less income. While traditional ways of doing business have evolved in the last several months, we cannot forget the stress this has created for middle market leaders and their employees. With so much focus on “how do we pivot?” the mental hardships of leaders and their teams were often overlooked.
Anxiety, stress, uncertainty, sustainability, and virtual fatigue – these all contribute to the overall well-being of a person and their ability to perform at their job.

SIMON ARIAS | Arias Agency, Entrepreneur, Motivational Speaker, Business Mogul
Simon Arias was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He played football at Youngstown-Ursuline where he led his team to a state championship as team captain his senior year. Simon received a scholarship to play football at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania where he was again voted team captain. Simon took the leadership skills he developed over the years on the football field and was hired by the Surace-Smith Agencies of American Income Life in Ohio after obtaining his . Simon excelled and very quickly moved to a management position in the organization- becoming a Regional Manager within his first year.
Simon worked closely alongside the State General Agents in Ohio, Jim Surace and Marcus Smith, as Regional Director of Sales for the agency and as a key figure in expansion efforts. The results he got helped him surface as one of the top leaders in American Income Life, a division of the Torchmark Corporation (TMK). American Income Life has been providing supplemental benefits to America’s working families for over 60 years. In 2008, Simon accepted a promotion and the challenge of being the Agency Owner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the age of 24. He excelled as an Agency Owner and has won his category numerous times breaking the production records for his territory.
Simon has subsequently expanded into West Virginia, Maryland, Florida, New York, Tennessee, South Carolina, Nebraska, Alabama, Texas, Iowa, Maine and an SGA Partnership with Tristan in Chicago and Indiana. Simon currently operates 24 offices. Simon is on the company’s Executive Council which dictates the direction of the company internationally; he is viewed as a mentor to many of the top leaders in the company, and for the years 2011 & 2012 Simon was chosen as the Agency Owner of the year internationally- the highest honor an Agency Owner can receive, and the first time an SGA was ever awarded this honor .
Simon believes that if you aren’t getting enough you aren’t giving enough. His agency gives back to the community through charitable donations, volunteer work, and through food banks and turkey drives that he facilitates. Simon constantly looks for ways to enrich and better the lives of others and if you ask his they will tell you that giving as much as possible to as many people as possible is at the heart of his mission.
As of 2015, Simon has partnered with the charitable group Inspiring Minds and has opened a location in his hometown of Youngstown, OH. He serves as board chair for the Youngstown location. Growing up in a tough neighborhood for much of his life, Simon knew what it meant to have good role models like his mother, Chrissy, who serves as the operations manager for his agency. He has taken it upon himself to seek out and find young people to mentor and impact- especially at-risk youth. In his spare time Simon enjoys travelling, visiting with family, working out, and is a student of jiu jitsu and mixed martial arts. Simon and his wife Natalie are the proud parents of their daughter Sienna, son Simon, Goddaughter Amya, & arriving soon baby Enzo.
At 38 years old, Simon believes he’s just getting started with fulfilling the mission God has for him.

Dr. Ellen Burts-Cooper is the senior managing partner of Improve Consulting and Training Group, a firm that provides personal and professional development training, coaching and consultation. Improve has been featured in Time Magazine, Black Voices, Smart Business Magazine, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Cleveland Jewish News, Cleveland.com and Crain’s Cleveland Business.
Dr. Burts-Cooper is on faculty at Case Western Reserve University in the Weatherhead Executive Education Program and The Institute for Management Studies (IMS). She is the author of the books “aMAZEing Organizational Teams: Navigating 7 Critical Attributes for Cohesion, Productivity and Resilience” and “Canine Instinct: A Guide to Survival and Advancement in Corporate America.” She also created the workshop curricula “Personal Positioning: Building Personal Brand Equity” and “Don’t Just Think Outside the Box, Make the Box Bigger” and is a member of the National Wellness Institute.
She earned a BS in chemistry from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL, her PhD in organic/polymer chemistry from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, her MBA from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Business and her Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification from 3M Company.
TAMMY LYONS | Owner: Inner Bliss Yoga Studio + Believe in CLE
Tammy Lyons is the founder and owner of Inner Bliss Yoga Studios.
She has grown her business from a single yoga classroom in 2002 to two studio locations in the western Cleveland suburbs of Rocky River and Westlake, offering over 75 classes per week and overseeing a team of 40+ teachers and staff.
Tammy is the leader behind the Believe in CLE movement, founded to host large scale yoga events in notable Cleveland locations such as The Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and Quicken Loans Arena and to celebrate the city she loves.
Tammy has taught nearly 10,000 yoga classes in her career, and has introduced and managed yoga training programs with Cleveland’s professional sports teams. She is proud to claim Inner Bliss as the official yoga provider for the Cleveland Indians and its farm teams. Tammy has been a lululemon Ambassador, named one of Cleveland Magazine’s Most Interesting People in 2017, and has had many media appearances related to yoga in the community.
A profound belief in the practice of yoga and a solid mission aimed at opening hearts guide Tammy in decisions around business-related endeavors. She lives her yoga philosophy and hopes to inspire others to do so, as well.
To that end, Tammy has written and hosted two 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs at Inner Bliss alongside a solid team of current Inner Bliss and visiting teachers and professionals.
A native Ohioan, Tammy lives in Bay Village with her husband and two sons and enjoys running, reading, time on Lake Erie and family travel. The sky is the limit for Inner Bliss Yoga Studios as Tammy is always finding new and creative ways to grow her business and spread the love.
SARAH JOHNSON | VP Marketing and Communications, Greater Cleveland Partnership
Sarah serves as the vice president of marketing and communications for GCP. In this role, Sarah is responsible for the strategic oversight of all marketing and communications activities. She ensures that businesses of all sizes find value in participating in GCP programming and events. Prior to joining GCP, Sarah worked in Case Western Reserve University’s Marketing and Communications department for nearly eight years. She began her marketing career with healthcare institutions in the Cleveland area, working for both Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals.
Sarah has an MBA with a specialization in healthcare administration and marketing from Cleveland State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech pathology from Loyola University in Maryland. In addition to proudly serving on the Open Doors Academy Board, Sarah also serves on two university alumni boards and volunteers regularly at Moriah House, a crisis shelter for women and children. Sarah is a native Clevelander residing in Lyndhurst with her husband, five children and dog.
