Building a skilled workforce in Northeast Ohio
A message from the chairman:
It is hard to believe that is has been a decade since regional business leaders formed RITE, and now, we are celebrating 10 Years of Success. I am very proud of what we have accomplished.
One area of work I am particularly proud of is our work with regional high schools. In 2013, we launched our first program and today we have a portfolio of programs and partnerships that have reached 6,000 regional high school students from 209 high schools across NEO. These programs are designed to provide the knowledge, experiences, and connections necessary to pursue a career in IT. While the numbers are certainly impressive, more important is what we hear from teachers directly that what RITE offers is life-changing.
But our impact extends beyond our work with regional high schools, students, and teachers.
We have built a remarkable coalition of employers, industry associations and economic development organizations that are working together to advance a regional IT talent development strategy. We have great partnerships with colleges, universities, high schools, and many workforce organizations from Lorain to Cleveland to Akron. Through Greater Cleveland Partnership, we have deepened our capabilities in many ways and see the potential to build more capacity to serve the region in the coming years.
We realize that there is much more work to be done. If we have learned anything from this pandemic, we know the digital divide is real and commands all of our attention. As the newly designated intermediary for Workforce Connect IT, RITE will continue to embed equity and inclusion strategies into workforce development efforts just like with have with our high school programs. We are pleased to lead the IT Workforce Connect Partnership and will build upon our current work to help employers find the diverse, skilled IT talent they need.
Industry leadership is critical, especially now as RITE brings together businesses under the IT Workforce Connect Sector Partnership. We thank all of our current partners and are calling on everyone to double down. We need those of you already engaging to do more, and those who are not, to please join in.
A great way to become engaged is to join in RITE’s 5th Summit coming up next month as part of Tech Week. I’d like you to specifically join me for our Opening Plenary on Friday, August 28th from 8:30-10 a.m.
Hope to you “see” you there!
